Born Donald Drake Hogestyn, he attended the University of South Florida and earned a degree in microbiology and applied sciences. He also played baseball at the university and later was drafted by both Major League Baseball's St. Louis Cardinals and New York Yankees. He spent a short time in the Yankee farm system before being injured in 1977. He later turned to acting, and his acting debut occurred in 1982 with a role on the television series "Seven Brides for Seven Brothers." Besides "Days of Our Lives," he later appeared in such television series as "Otherworld" and "Criminal Minds." He received numerous award nominations for his role in "Days of Our Lives." He passed away after a battle with pancreatic cancer.
