Emma was the youngest of three daughter born to Fred W. & Mary Reifel Haman. She was born in Rush County, Indiana. When she was 13 her family moved to Rosenberg, Texas. She joined the First Baptist Church there as soon as they arrived and was a faithful and active worker of that church all of her life.

On October 6, 1913, she married Robert Peyton Killebrew in Rosenberg, Texas. They had one daughter, Mary Emma Killebrew, born on March 9, 1921.

After two weeks of a hard fight with flu and double pneumonia, Emma died at 9 p.m. on Sunday, December 18, 1932 at the home of her parents. (date taken from newspaper clipping & funeral notice - tombstone shows December 19, 1932)

Emma was only 39 years of age at the time of her death, and her daughter Mary Emma was only 11 years old. Her funeral services were held at the First Baptist Church in Rosenberg, on Tuesday, December 20 at 2:30 p.m. Rev. J. Vernon Wheeless, pastor of the church, conducted the services, assisted by Rev. J. H. Hardy of Nederland, a former pastor of the church and a friend, and Rev. B. D. Clark, pastor of the First Christian Church, also a close friend of the deceased and her family. Each pastor spoke beautifully of her Christian life and gave consolation to those who loved her so greatly. A large number of friends attended the last rites , and there were many beautiful floral tributes.

Her obituary also stated that pallbearers were A. E. Pleak, L. D. Potter, Joe Catron, F. L. Tiller, C. H. Boring, E. V. Stubblefield, L. B. Burke and M. E. Parrott.

She was survived by her husband; her young daughter, Mary Emma; her parents, Mr. & Mrs. F. W. Haman; two sisters, Mrs. Cora Wills of San Marcos and Mrs. Stella Ward of Rosenberg; and several nieces and nephews.
