Colonel Edward Richard McNabb, Jr., U.S. Army, retired, passed away on September 2, 2001, peacefully at home in the company of his children. He was 80 years old.

He was born in Corpus Christi, Texas on January 8, 1921 to Edward R. McNabb and Millie McNabb. He was reared in South and Central Texas and was a lifelong resident of Texas.

He enlisted in the U.S. Army in March 1942 and proudly served thirty-three years active and active reserve duty participating in two wars as an infantry officer.

In World War II, he served first as a Ranger under British Combined Operations Command and then with regimental units making the Omaha Beach assault and participating in five campaigns.

In the Korea Conflict, he served for two campaigns, on an Infantry Division staff in Korea, on a Reception Center and Post headquarter staff, and on the staff of Headquarters, U.S. Army European Communication Zone.

In reserve assignments, he served on the faculty of a Reserve School for fourteen years and was the mobilization designee for a division of the office of Deputy Chief of Staff Logistics, Headquarters Department of Army, where ordered to retired status. Graduate of the infantry and Adjutant General's Schools, U.S. Army Command and General Staff and the U.S. Air Force Staff and Command Colleges through the Industrial College of the Armed Forces.

His decorations include the Combat Infantry Badge, Bronze Star, Meritorious Service Medal, Purple Heart with Oak Leaf Cluster, Presidential Unit Citation with one Oak Leaf Cluster, and the French Croix d'Guerre with Palm.

He received BA and MA degrees from Southwest Texas State University. Employed twenty-four years by the Air Force Logistics Command and served with the San Antonio Air Logistics Center until 1980.

He was active in Community affairs serving on the Hill Country Village City Council from 1977 through 1981. He served as Mayor of Hill Country Village from 1986 through 1997.

He was proceeded in death by his dear wife of 53 years, Agnes Blanche Murf, his eldest son, Edward Richard "Rickey" McNabb, III, and his aunt, Ollie Poe.

He is survived by his children, James W. McNabb, Dennis M. McNabb and his wife Mary Scott, John T. McNabb, Mary E McNabb, Ollie Lynne McNabb, June A. Weinman and her husband Bruce; grandchildren, Colin, Gregor, Scotty, Sean and Shani.
