Sallie D (Gillis) Green was the daughter and youngest child of John Augustus Gillis and Almirah Adeline Lewis. She was an infant when her father apparently died having never returned from fighting in the Civil War. She married Walter Cooper Green and was the mother of 7 children who lived to old ages; however, she died 3 days after the stillbirth of twin daughters on May 30, 1899, at the age of 34. She is buried in the New Zion Cemetery near her husband, her mother, and her maternal grandparents.
