Mrs. Eno Murrah Fokes

Mrs. Eno Murrah Fokes, 80-year-old descendant of a pioneer ranching family, died Wednesday in a nursing home after a lingering illness.

Mrs. Fokes, daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. J.R. Murrah, was born Aug. 30, 1900, in Golthwaite, Texas. The family moved to Del Rio when she was a child and was reared here. Her father had ranching interests in the Pecos River area.

A graduate of Southwestern University at Georgetown, Texas she taught school in Del Rio and served for years as county superintendent of public instruction for Val Verde County.

She was married to Jack E. Fokes, July 6, 1924; he died in 1954. There son Jack M. Fokes died in November, 1957.

Mrs. Fokes was a member of the First Presbyterian Church and was active in the Women of the Church. She was an honorary member of the New Century Club, which she joined in 1943 and served as president for the 1958-59 club year. She was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary and the Del Rio Music Club.

Rites will be held Saturday at 11 a.m. in the First Presbyterian Church.

Survivors include a granddaughter, Jacquelyn Fokes, and a grandson, Clifford Howard Fokes of Athens, Ohio; a sister, Mrs. Grover C. Poole of Victoria and a number of nieces and nephews.

Mrs. Eno Murrah Folkes

Rites for Mrs. Eno Murrah Fokes, 80, will be held Saturday at 11 a.m. in the First Presbyterian Church with the Rev. Joe Walls, pastor of the First Baptist Church, officiating. Burial will be made in the Westlawn Cemetery under the direction of Humphreys-Doran Funeral Home.

Mrs. Fokes died Wednesday in a nursing home following a lingering illness.

She was born Aug. 30, 1900, in Goldthwaite, the daughter of early day ranchers, Mr. & Mrs. J.R. Murrah. The family moved to Del Rio when she was a child and she was reared here. Following graduation from Southwestern University at Georgetown, Texas, she taught school in Del Rio and was years she served as county superintendent of public instruction for Val Verde County.

She was married to Jack E. Fokes July 6, 1925; he died in 1954. Their son, Jack M. Fokes, died in November, 1957.

Pallbearers will be R.J. Weddall, D.A. Herrington, Charles Ledbetter, Ira Ripley, Henry Mills Jr., Al Mills, Louis Mayfield and Johnny Zuberbueler.

Nephews are honorary pallbearers.
