His illustrious career included serving as the 16th Governor of Washington from January 13, 1965 to January 12, 1977 and as a member of the United States Senate from September 8, 1983 to January 3, 1989. He received his education at Roosevelt High School in Laurelhurst, Seattle, before earning a degree in civil engineering at the University of Washington. Following his tenure in the United States Navy from 1943 to 1946, he made significant contributions to the state's political landscape. Appointed to the United States Senate in 1983 after the passing of Henry M. Jackson, he was elected in a special election in November and served until 1989, declining to seek a second term. After leaving the Senate, he established his own consulting firm, Daniel J. Evans Associates. He served as President of The Evergreen State College and on the board of trustees of the University of Washington. He passed away at the age of 98 at his residence in Seattle.
