After attending the University of Texas and later UCLA, she was discovered by Hollywood talent scouts, which led to her motion picture debut in the film Arrowhead (1953). She experienced a role in the Hitchcock picture Rear Window (1954) and had a significant part in the Otto Preminger film Anatomy of a Murder (1959). In 1957, she married Bing Crosby (until his death in 1977) and retired from acting in 1959. Her union with Crosby produced two sons: Harry & Nathaniel, and their daughter Mary, who went on to become an actress. Her other films include: Operation Mad Ball (1957), The Seventh Voyage of Sinbad (1958) and The Big Circus (1959). She died from natural causes.
