He enlisted in the Army Air Corps on February 1, 1944 at Fort Thomas, Newport, Kentucky. He was noted as being employed as a Bookkeeper and/or cashier and also as Married.

Norman was declared "Missing In Action" when his B-24 was hit by enemy flak and crashed in the Adriatic Sea during the war. He was awarded the Air Medal and the Purple Heart.
