Didier Pironi was a racing driver from France. After a succesful career in lower racing formulas he drove for the F1 teams of Tyrrell, Ligier and Ferrari between 1978 and 1982 until he had an almost fatal accident at Hockenheim in 1982. He later competed in offshore boats where he came to death in 1987.
