"Many Mourn Passing of Stone Butner" - Stone Benjamin Butner, a rancher of Prairie Creek, passed away Monday, January 3, 1966 at the Wallowa Memorial Hospital where he had been a patient for six days. He had been in ill health for the past two months. He was associated with the late Jay Dobbin in ranching operations for many years.

He was born in Polk County, Missouri on October 2, 1888, son of Samuel and Ellen Butner and came to Wallowa County in 1908. On January 3, 1910 he was married at Dustin, Okla. to Jimmy Mae Carter who survives him. He was a member of Joseph Lodge No. 81 AF&AM.

Besides his wife, he leaves three daughters, Mrs. Cecil (Mildred) McCubbin and Mrs. Carl (Louise) Freels, both of Enterprise, and Mrs. Art (Connie) Thrasher, of Grants Pass, one son, Marvin, of Enterprise, 14 grandchildren and 20 great grandchildren.

Funeral services will be Friday at 2 p.m. at the Bollman Chapel with Rev. James E. Jones officiating and with Mrs. Luella Miller as organist. Mrs. Rachel Ann Sutphin will be soloist.

Casket bearers will be: Jay, Ray, Jim, and William Butner, Ross Courtney, and William Ferguson, all grandsons. Honorary pallbearers will be: Wayne McFetridge, S.J. Farris, V.L. Repplinger, C. Raymond Johnson, Harvey Foster, and Malcolm Dawson. Interment will be in the Enterprise Cemetery, with committal service by Joseph Lodge 81 AF&AM.
