Rachel Faye Elder Simmons, 81, of Hwy. 64-90 West, Taylorsville, died Thursday, September 14, 2006, at Wake Forest University Baptist Medical Center in Winston-Salem following a brief illness.
She was born in Iredell County February 18, 1925, the daughter of the late William Curtis Elder and Blanche Burgess Elder. She was a member of East Taylorsville Baptist Church and was retired from Ford Motor Company. Mrs. Simmons was very patriotic.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Robert Simmons, Sr.; an infant daughter, Suzanne Simmons; a sister, Mary Stewart; and two brothers, Buford Elder and Jack Elder.
Survivors include two daughters, Rebecca Simmons of Taylorsville and Roberta Jane Adams and husband Steven B. of Sterling Heights, Michigan; a son, Robert James Simmons, Jr., and wife Sheryl of Sterling Heights, Michigan; five sisters, Lena Ellis of Eden, Alice Buck of Jacksonville, Florida, Ann Swaim of Winston-Salem, and Jane Goble and Connie Bryant, both of Taylorsville; four brothers, J. C. Elder and Thomas Elder, both of Taylorsville, David Elder of Hickory, and Richard Elder of Taylorsville; six grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and a number of nieces and nephews.
A graveside service was held Sunday, September 17, 2006, at the Elder Family Cemetery next to Carson's Chapel United Methodist Church in Taylorsville with Rev. Jamie Steele and Rev. Mark Marshall officiating.
