During the bombardment of Badonviller, Captain McHenry along with Sergeant Grahl went through the trenches seeing that his men were in a place of shelter. As they passed by the Sergeant's Quarters the shelling was so intense they stepped inside for a moment when a large caliber explosive shell destroyed the shelter killing Captain McHenry instantly. He was the youngest Captain in the regiment and was the first officer of 168th Infantry to die in battle ☆ From the book The Price of our Heritage. In Memory of the Heroic Dead of the 168th Infantry
