Carl P. Bechtold, 89, passed away in a locl hospital early Saturday evening, Oct. 16 following a lengthy illness. He was born in Russia and came to the U.S. with his parents when he was an infant. They settled in Sawyer, ND, where he was reared and obtained his schooling. In 1920 he married Frieda Berg and she passed away in 1938. In 1948 he married Lydia (Leno) Beck. He retired in 1951 as a farmer and coal operator. They moved to Lodi in 1958. He was a member of the First Baptist Church in Lodi and enjoyed fishing, traveling and fixing lawn mowers and bicycles in his neighborhood. He is survived by his wife, Lydia C. Bechtold of Lodi; three sons, Roy of Sawyer, ND, Bennie of Minot, ND, and Lawrence of Umatilla, OR; three daughters, Deloris Maag of Umatilla, OR, Eleanor Rivers of Blackfoot, ID. and Evangeline Ave of Lodi; three step-daughters, Viola Faul of Orland, WY, Gladys Johnson, of Minot, ND and Adeline Ness of Rathdrum, ID; his step-son, Willie Beck of Billings, MT; a sister, Frieda Uhlich of Longview, WA; and by 29 grandchildren, 28 great grandchildren, 22 step grandchildren and 27 step great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by two daughter, three sisters and a brother. Funeral services will be held today (Thursday) at 10 a.m. in the Lodi Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. G. G. Rauser and Rev. Walter Dingfield officiating. Burial will follow in Lodi Memorial Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be given to the donor's favorite charity.
