Scion of an old and prolific Rhode Island Quaker family, John Sisson was born to Giles and Elizabeth ARNOLD Sisson at Westerly, Washington Co. He served under Colonel Peter Yates, Colonel VanRensselaer and Colonel Livingston, all commanding regiments of Albany County Militia. An early pioneer of the Town of Unadilla,Otsego CO., NY, he married Alcha CRANDALL (1755-1832). They had nineteen children, of which thirteen survived to adulthood. They were: Elizabeth Crandall Sisson (1771), David Sisson (1772-?), John Sisson, Jr (1773-after 1822, married Hannah GARDNER), Giles Sisson(1775-1835, married 1. Sarah "Sally" POTTER, 2. Mary Magdalena ROUSH Knop), Wilson Crandall Sisson (1776-1806, married Rebecca COBB), Aaron Sisson(1777-1778), Elizabeth Sisson (1778-after 1793, married Benjamin Woodworth SAUNDERS), Aaron Sisson (1780-1865, married Mary "Polly" Sisson), Edith Sisson (1781-?), Rebecca Sisson(1783-1867, married Job WILBUR), Wright Sisson (1784-?, married Dorcas BARTLETT), Simeon Sisson (1787-1838, married Susannah POTTER), Benjamin Sisson (1787-1850, married 1. John was a farmer and a Jacksonian Democrat.
