Confederate Officer. Hezekiah L. Andrews was commissioned captain on Company F, 2nd North Carolina Infantry Battalion on November 30, 1861. He was captured at Roanoke Island, in February 1862, and exchanged. Andrews was promoted to major on October 1, 1862, and Lieutenant Colonel on June 6, 1863.

At Gettysburg on July 1, 1863, while in command of the 2nd North Carolina Battalion, Andrews was killed during the attacks of Daniel's Brigade on Stone's Bucktail Brigade, Col. Andrews was killed while opposing the 143rd and 149th Pennsylvania regiments, along the Chambersburg Pike.

Col. Andrews was buried on the James J. Wills' Farm, on Herr Ridge. His remains were later removed in the 1870s and sent to Hollywood Cemetery in Richmond, Virginia, and interred in the "Gettysburg Dead" section.
