Luther (Luke) Francis Cree, 88, of Logansport, Ind., died Tuesday, June 3, 2008, at Miller's Merry Manor, Logansport.

Born April 11, 1920, in Carroll County, Ind., he was the son of Asa and Arelva Foster Cree. He married Marian J. Snyder, of Chicago, on April 3, 1943. She preceded him in death April 3, 1974. He married Phyllis J. Busser on July 31, 1976, in Villa Park, Ill. She survives him.

Luke was a veteran of World War II. He served in the U.S. Navy, where he achieved the rank of ensign. He was honorably discharged in 1945 after serving four years.

He graduated from Adams Township High School in Carroll County, Ind., and from Purdue University. While in the Navy, he studied at the University of Pennsylvania, Columbia University and Harvard University. He also completed some graduate work at Northwestern University in Evanston, Ill.

He worked for Motorola for 31 years in the Chicago area, retiring in 1983 as a personnel manager. He was past president of Electronics Association of Illinois.

He was past master of Garfield Masonic Lodge #686 in Chicago. In Logansport, he joined Tipton Masonic Lodge #33. He was a member of Murat Shrine Temple in Indianapolis and the Logansport Shrine Club, where he served for seven years as secretary. He was also a member of American Legion Post #60.He was an active member of the former Ninth Street Christian Church, now River of Life Christian Church, serving as a deacon, an elder and for two years as board president. Most recently, he served as a board member of Pine Crest Apartments.

Luke enjoyed golfing, gardening, mushroom hunting and spending time with family.

Survivors include his wife, Phyllis Cree; three daughters, Nancy Gross (husband Kenneth), Fort Worth, Texas; Kay Little (husband Timothy), St. Charles, Ill.; Linda Aycock (husband Larry), Lillian, Ala.; son Jerry Busser (wife Dr. Natalie Evans), Chicago; son-in-law Joseph Crist, Barrington, Ill.; one brother, Richard (wife Shirley) Cree, Evansville, Ind.;nine grandchildren, Matthew Gross (wife Karla), Chicago; Jessica Doss (husband Jared), Saginaw, Texas; Adam Kaleta, Schaumburg, Ill.; Justin Kaleta (wife Erin), Barrington, Ill.; Morgan and Mackenzie Little, St. Charles, Ill.; Alysha Busser, Lillian, Ala.; Jason Aycock (wife Jessica) Pensacola, Fla.; Brian Aycock (wife Stacey), Fort Benning, Ga.; and six great-grandchildren, Madison, Gabbie, Marley and Cameron Aycock, Pensacola, Fla.; Haley and Brianna Aycock, Fort Benning, Ga.

A daughter, Theresa Marie Crist, and a sister, Maude Helvie, preceded him in death.


Funeral Information
Friends will be received from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m., Friday, June 6, 2008, at Fisher Funeral Chapel, Logansport. Masonic services will be conducted at 7:30 p.m. followed by a Shriners processional walk-by.

Services will be held at 10:30 a.m., Saturday, June 7, 2008, at Fisher Funeral Chapel. Dr. Sam Young and the Rev. Frank Hibbard will be officiating.Interment with full military rites will follow in the Walton IOOF Cemetery.
