Judge Halyburton was the highest Judge in the Confederacy. He administered the oath of office to President Jefferson Davis.

Nominated by John Tyler on June 15, 1844, to a seat vacated by John Y. Mason; Confirmed by the Senate on June 15, 1844, and received commission on June 15, 1844. Service terminated on April 24, 1861, due to resignation.
