Known as the "Armenian Nightingale", she was a singer and opera performer. Gasparian was born in 1924 in Cairo, Egypt where she studied at the Music Academy. She migrated to Soviet Armenia in 1948 at age 24 along with many thousands of other Armenians from the Middle East. A year later she was singing at the Armenian National Academic Opera and Ballet Theatre and went on to appeared in 23 operas with over 500 songs in her repertoire. She toured throughout the Soviet Union and Europe in roles in operas as diverse as Queen of the Night in The Magic Flute, Anoush, Aida, La Traviata, and Norma. She was named a People's Artist of the USSR and also taught at the Yerevan State Musical Conservatory.
