John H. Wheelan, 94, dies Tuesday

John H. Wheelan, 94, of 1015 S. Iowa Ave., died Tuesday evening May 10, 1983, at Washington County Hospital. He had been seriously ill for the past month.

Funeral services will be at 10:30a.m. Friday in St. James Catholic Church, Washington.

John Henry Wheelan was born March 2, 1889 in Seaton, Ill., the son of Thomas and Susan Duffy Wheelan. He attended Seaton (Ill) High School and was a graduated of St. Ambrose College in Davenport. On Feb. 18, 1914 he married Martha Veronica Swift who preceded him in death on Oct. 27, 1979, at Washington.

A resident of the county for most of his life, Mr. Wheelan farmed in the Washington area for 60 years. The Wheelans moved to Washington in 1967.

Survivors include two sons, Mike Wheelan of Washington and Donald J. Wheelan of Oklahoma City;two daughters, Mrs. Bernard (Esther) Blaine of Kansas City, Mo., and Mrs. Robert (Roberta) Clark of Arenzville, Ill.; 19 grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren, two brothers, Frank Wheelan of San Antonio, Texas, and Clarence Wheelan of Lafayette, La.; and one sister Mrs. Rose Shockley of Ludington, Mich. He was preceded in death by his wife and one sister.
