Mr. Hartwig farmed in Sheridan and East Lincoln townships before he retired.
He was born Sept. 14, 1915, in Plover, Wis., to Laurence and Pearl Purviance Hartwig. He married Ralpho Adel Shelton on June 17, 1940, in Rushville. She died Dec. 9, 2002.
Survivors are one son, Alan Hartwig of Lincoln; one daughter, Karol (and Robert) Richardson of Kenney; three granddaughters, Terri (and Paul) Ratini of Fort Pierce, Fla., and Bobbi and Katelyn Hartwig of Lincoln; one grandson, Austin Hartwig of Lincoln; and two great-granddaughters, Emma and Molly Ratini of Fort Pierce, Fla.
He was the last of his immediate family.
Mr. Hartwig was known through the state for his polled Hereford cattle.
He was a graduate of Lincoln Community High School and Lincoln College.
He was a member of New Holland United Methodist Church, to which memorials may be made.
