Charles Jackson "Jack" Smythe was the husband of Martha Frances Jones Smythe for 62 years. They have four children, Kelly Smythe (Teruko-deceased) of Pensacola, FL; Jackie Smythe (Hazel) of Jackson, TN; Mary Alice Dickson (Jim) of Murfreesboro, TN; and Gary Smythe (deceased). There are four grandchildren, Charles Smythe (Sandra), Tony Smythe (Christie), Michelle Price (Adam), and Michael Dickson (Amanda) and two great-grandchildren, Kelly and Candace Smythe.

Jack and Martha were co-founders of Lifeline Blood Services in Jackson, Tennessee.

Jack was the adopted son of Dr. Kelly Smythe and Alice Smith Smythe. He was the biological son of Lucious F. Tubbs and Leona McBroom Tubbs. Mrs. Tubbs died during the flu epidemic in 1920. Jack's full brothers and sisters (in age order) are Maggie Lee, Jesse, Gene and Geena (twins), and Mary Lou. Lucious' second wife was Amy; and they had three children, Kelly Ray, Genenda, and Martha Lee.

201-202. Ju1y 23, 1921. Kelly Smythe and wife petitioned the county court to adopt Charles Jackson Tubbs, 18 months old, whose mother died about February 20, 1920 leaving a husband, Lucius F. Tubbs and this child; the mother died leaving 6 children; she died when Charles J. was about 5-6 weeks old; the father agreed to this adoption plan. Approved. Child's legal name: Char1es Jackson Smythe.
