After leaving the United States, he settled upon a fine farm. A few years later, he sold it to his brother and entered largely into speculation. Being unsuccessful, he one day drove to Brockville, disposed of his horse and carriage, and disappeared. He was never afterwards seen, and every effort to discover his whereabouts proved futil, though rumors came that he had been seen in the far West.
