One time owner and proprietor of the Johnson House, Ogdensburg. During the War of Rebellion he raised a company of calvary and fought for the Union. After the war, he moved to Farmersville, Ontario where he operated a farm. In the days of hand fire engines, he was foreman of No. 3 and his company's Honniman Tub was the crack machine of Northern New York. His wife, who was living at Brockville, was notified there of his suicide.

He was never afterwards seen, and every effort to discover his whereabouts proved futil, though rumors came that he had been seen in the far West.
