Pfc. Andre D. McNair of Fort Pierce, Florida graduated Fort Pierce Westwood High School in 2006 where he played football. Soon after, he enlisted in the Army, following in the footsteps of an aunt and an uncle who both had served in the military. Andre was an equipment repairman who joined the Army in June 2006. Andre was mechanically inclined and when he decided to join the service, he wanted to specialize in auto mechanics. But when he scored pretty high on an aptitude test, they convinced him to go into aviation mechanics. He was going to re-enlist so that he could become a pilot. His military decorations include the National Defense Service Medal, Afghanistan Campaign Medal, Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, Army Service Ribbon and the NATO Medal Former Republic of Yugoslavia. He died at Kandahar Army Airfield, Afghanistan, of injuries sustained when the Kiowa helicopter they were in went down during a test flight. He was 20.
