Max Cornia Buck was born in Woodruff, a son of Lewis and Thelma Cornia Buck. He attended the Woodruff Elementary School in Woodruff and South Rich High School in Randolph, graduating from LDS Seminary and South Rich High School. After graduation he entered the service and served his country in World War II, spending most of the time overseas.

Max met Wilma Ann Rasmussen, a daughter of Andrew and Melva Calderwood Rasmussen, of Evanston, Wyoming, and they were married in Evanston. It was later solemnized in the Logan LDS Temple.

They have three children, Connie Ann, Steven Max and Jeannie.
