Lucille "Nana" Garcia, 73, a resident of Barstow for 57 years, safely arrived home on Sept. 29, 2005. Lucille was born in Roswell, N.M. on Sept. 1, 1932.Lucille was devoted to God, her husband, family and friends. Lucille was instrumental in many of the early volunteer groups at St. Joseph's Catholic Church: The Altar Society, Parish Council, Cursillo, church decorations and St. Joseph's Catholic School. Her compassionate heart touched many people, especially the school children she worked with at Crestline, Skyline and Hinkley elementary schools. Working with students in special education, she took them under her wings and showed them Christ's love in and out of the classroom. Lucille inspired the climbing of B-Hill to celebrate Good Friday and devotions of the cross. Nana was known for her hospitality in her cooking, which included making bread, enchiladas, tamales and tortillas that warmed the hearts of everyone she touched.Nana is loved by her husband Ramon A. Garcia; 14 children and their spouses; 32 grandchildren and their spouses; and seven great-grandchildren.
