ATHENS, Tenn., May 25. -- James H. Slack, aged 72, one of the oldest and best-known citizens of the Fairview settlement, two miles from Athens, died at his home there on Tuesday. He was born in Roane county Nov. 6, 1845, and came to McMinn county with his parents in early boyhood. He was a member of the Blue Springs Christian church and his funeral was conducted in the church, which had been built largely through his efforts. In 1885 he was married to Miss Sara Melton, who with nine children, survive him.
