Worthington was a blacksmith, working in the shop of his Brother-in-law, John Shriver. He married Christena Ray (Dec 8 1850 in Darke Co by John N Ludy JP found in Book 3 of Darke Co Marriages page 215) and they had one son Robert Gray. One of the hazards of working in close proximity to livestock is that many diseases are communicable from them to humans.Worthington contracted Boll Hives ,which attacks the respiratory system eventually closing off the windpipe. The disease was not uncommon among blacksmiths of the era. This story was related to Robert by his mother and handed down to me by my Father, Dale Broadstock,Grandson of Robert Gray.
