Irvin Colloden Miller, Jr. was son of Irvin Colloden Miller, Sr., famous black actor, playwright, vaudeville show writer and producer, and Kathryn Althea Boyd, a famous black silent screen actress, whose father, Rev. Robert Allen Boyd was founder of the Nashville Globe, a black, weekly newspaper, and founder of the Baptist National Publishing Board.
Irvin, Jr. died of diphtheria at age 3, after which his mother was said to have taken up acting as a way to get her mind off of his death.
