Louisa Jane Adair Hancock Kay was the daughter of James M. Washington Adair and Alcy Eliza Dillard of SC. With both their fathers deceased, Samuel B. and Louisa Jane Hancock headed for Falls County, Texas with his widowed mother, her widowed mother and her siblings, where Louisa Jane's uncles, Thomas Milton and Odell Duckett Dillard had already migrated, via Arkansas, with the Thomas D. Harlan family. When Samuel B. Hancock died, Louisa Jane married a second time that same year, 1871, to Harris Kay -- a merchant at Stranger, whose first wife, Sarah (Dunn) Kay, had also died in 1871. Holman K. Hancock was raised by his step father.
