William Wallace Ball, who had been in failing health the past year, suffered a stroke of apoplexy and passed away at his farm home two miles northeast of Quasqueton Saturday, February 26, 1939.
William Wallace Ball was born February 7, 1862, on a farm in Linn County near Troy Mills, Iowa. He was the son of Marcus Lysander Ball and Mary Ellen Keller. While still a small child, he moved with his parents to Newton Township in Buchanan County, where the family resided until 1882. Then they moved to Liberty Township, where he has since resided.
He was united in marriage to Rebecca Annetta (Nettie) Reece on February 20, 1884. To this union four children were born: Nora Ellen, Floyd Glen, who died at one year of age. David Lysander and Perry Allen, who died at the age of 21. Mrs. Ball passed away in 1938.
Mr. Ball united with the Methodist Episcopal Church in 1895, and during the years that followed proved a faithfull member, holding several positions of trust, including the positions of Sunday School Superintndent, Bible class leader as of the official board. He was always willing to give of his time and money for the cause of the Kingdom, and at his death he was honorary deacon of the Union Protestant Church.
He was preceded in death by one brother, Marshall and one sister, Mrs. Esther Hoover. He is survived by one brother, Henry Ball, Winthrop; two children, Norah E. and David Lysander Ball; his daughter-in-law, Neva Ball; two grandsons, Donald, Bernard Ball; numerous other relatives and a host of friends. The Ball family have resided in their present home since 1890, except for three years spent at Wayland with their daughter, Norah, who was teaching there.
