Emeline Allen died at the home of her son, J. Berry Allen, in Logan Township on January 10 of general debility after an illness of about four months. The funeral was held at the residence on the 11th, and the remains were buried in Bassettville Cemetery. Emeline Berry was born on August 13, 1817 in Erie County, Pennsylvania. She was married to Truman Allen in 1842. The family moved to Iowa in 1853. They settled at the present site of Glen Elder, in Mitchell County, in 1869. In May of the following year, the Cheyenne Indians made their bloody raid through Mitchell County, but the Allen family escaped. In 1881, Mr. and Mrs. Allen came to Decatur County, residing until their death with their son, J. Berry Allen. Mr. Allen died in 1883, and his faithful wife has now joined him in the undiscovered country. She joined Methodist Church when 17 years of age, and has ever since been a consistent Christian. Mrs. Allen lived to a good old age and died the death of the righteous.
