Mr. Homer C. Bryant, Jr. passed away on July 5, 1999, after a courageous battle with cancer. Services will be conducted by Rev. James Hill of First Baptist Church of Blanchard at Rose-Neath Southside Chapel on Thursday, July 8, 1999 at 1 p.m. The family will receive visitors at the funeral home on Wednesday, July 7, 1999, between hours of 4 p.m. and 8 p.m.
Mr. Bryant was born in Shreveport, Louisiana, on September 8, 1924. He graduated from Fair Park High School, and served his country in the United States Army Air Corps (Pacific Theatre) during World War II. He was a purple heart recipient. Well-known among local law enforcement officers for his dedication and expertise, Mr. Bryant began his career as a motorcycle patrolman with Troop G Louisiana State Police. He joined the Caddo Parish Sheriff's Department and retired from that agency having served over 30 years in law enforcement. The highest rank he attained with the Sheriff's Department, was Major in charge of criminal investigations. He also worked for the Winn Parish Sheriff's Department, Bossier City Police Department and Southern Research Company. He had been a licensed polygraph examiner. Mr. Bryant was Past Commander of Lowe-McFarland American Legion Post, Past Worthy Patron of Magnolia Chapter of the Order of Eastern Star, a member of the VFW, DAV 307th Bomb Group Association, recipient of a 50 year award from the Grand Lodge of the State of Louisiana Free and Accepted Masons, and a member of the Blanchard Masonic Lodge. He enjoyed amateur radio operating and sitting on his patio.
He was predeceased by his parents, Homer C. Bryant Sr., and Vollie Walker Bryant; a sister, Jerry Bryant Lord; wife, June Nelson Bryant and second wife, Eloise Talmadge Bryant.
He is survived by daughters, Karen Bryant Dye and husband, William of Shreveport and Brenda Bryant and fiance', Ron Stansbury of Parish, Florida. He is also survived by grandchildren, Christopher Bryant Dye and wife, Margie of Redmond, Washington; Kellie Dye Brisse and husband, Wade of San Antonio, Texas and Kevin Wayne Mother shed and fiance', Tessa Spinler of Waskom, Texas. Surviving great-grandchildren are Taylor Anthony Brisse and Caitlin Ashley Brisse.
Pallbearers will be Steve Prator, Kevin Mothershed, Doyle Mothershed, Wade Brisse, Jimmie Mangham and Bishop Killingsworth. Honorary pallbearers are Rudy Hill, Sheriff
'Don Hathaway, Chief Deputy Milton Almond, Neal Railey and all members of the Caddo Sheriff's Department and area peace officers.
The family would like extend thanks to Drs. Mark Callaway, Chris McDonald, Johnny Craig and Alan Grosbach, as well as the staff of the Schumpert Cancer Treatment Center. Special thanks is offered to the staff and volunteers of Grace Home for their loving compassionate care. The family has requested that memorial donations be made to Grace Home and St. Jude's Children's Hospital. He only takes the best. God saw that he was getting tired and a cure was not to be. So he put his arms around him and whispered, "Come with me." With tear-filled eyes we watched him suffer and fade away. Although we loved him deeply. We could not make him stay. A golden heart stopped beating. Hard-working hand put to rest. God broke our hearts to prove to us, He only takes the best. Rest well, dear Daddy. We love you and we'll miss you terribly.
