James Neal Madden, 66, of Apple Springs, was born July 13, 1940, in Angelina County, Texas, the son of the late Ola Faye Madden Sedgwick and James (Sam) Ruben Madden. He passed away Thursday, November 9, 2006, in a Lufkin hospital. Mr. Madden was retired from Lufkin Industries, and was President of Local 1999 IAM Machinist Union. He was retired from the United States Army as a Sergeant First Class E7. He served in Vietnam, and received the National Defense Service Medal; Vietnam Service Medal with three bronze Service Stars; Vietnam Campaign Medal; Good Conduct Medal, Clasp, Silver; Vietnamese Cross of Gallantry with Palm; and was a Sharpshooter Expert. He was a member of First Baptist Church in Missouri City. Survivors include his wife of 45 years, Mary Virginia Madden of Apple Springs; daughters Elizabeth (Beth)Madden and Lolette Tullos of Apple Springs; son and daughter-in-law, Jimmy Neal and Ruth Madden of Hanover, IN; grandchildren, Jamie and Patty of Reseda, CA, Casey, Drayden of Apple Springs, Cory and Ashley of Hanover, IN; great-grandchildren, Diana, Jeffrey and Jennifer of Reseda, CA; brothers and sisters-in-law, Joe and Carol Madden of Houston and Jerry and Rhaeanne of Pollok; sister and brother-in-law, Ann and David Ray of Bristo, OK; and sister, Sandra Anthony of Apple Springs. Pallbearers will be members of Local 1999 IAM Machinist Union: Phillip Smith, Johnny Doss, Donald Spicer, Todd Thornton, Kevin Tullos and James Chamblee. In lieu of the usual remembrances, honorariums may be made to the American Cancer Society, 212 Gene Samford Drive, Lufkin, Texas 75904. Services for Mr. Madden will be held at 2:00 p.m. Sunday, November 12, 2006, in the Gipson-Metcalf Funeral Home Chapel, with Michael Madden officiating.
