VERONA — Alexander D. Miller, age 92, who served the Bank of Verona for 67 years, died on Tuesday, December 29, 1992 at the Mlddleton Village Nursing Home after a long Illness. He was born on October 24, 1900 in the town of Verona. Alex was a life long resident of Verona. He was the son of Alexander G. Miller, a founder of the Bank of Verona which was established in 1903. He graduated from the Verona High School In 1919 and attended Madison Business College. Alex D. began his career In the bank In 1923 and became president of the bank in 1954. In 1970 he retired but stayed on as Chairman of the board of Directors until 1985 and remained a director until 1991. He was a member of the Verona Masonic Lodge #294, Past President of the Village of Verona (now a city), a member of the Verona Fire Department and served as a local chairman of the Salvation Army for many years. He was very active In all community activities, taking great pride In all the accomplishments of the Verona Community.

Alex D. Miller and Irene T. Gunkel were united In marriage on September 29, 1922, and they celebrated 67 years of marriage.

Survivors include a son, Alex R. (Carol) Miller of Verona; a daughter, Joan Miller of Verona; three grandsons, Alan (Julie) Miller of Verona, Mike (Sue) Durst of Verona, and Fritz (Sherrle) Durst of Waunakee; three granddaughters, Mrs. Pam (Greg) Denner of Verona, Mrs. Jane (Jeff) Metzler of Stoughton, and Mrs. Sharon (Keith) Lutz of Janesvllle; 13 greatgrandchildren; a sister-in-law, Mrs. Fred (Ethel) Gunkel of Florida; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife, Irene T. Miller on December 31, 1989; his parents, Alexander G. and Margaret Miller; two sisters, Mrs. Fred (Mae) Steckelberg, and Mrs. John (Blanche) Miller; and a brother, William J. Miller.
