He was born Aug. 24, 1936, in Mead to Paul H. and Linnea (Samuelson) Nygren. He was a graduate of Mead High School and attended Luther Junior College in Wahoo. He served in the U.S. Air Force. He married Bette J. Behrens on Oct. 15, 1956, in Leshara. They farmed near Mead until 2000, then moved to a ranch near Brewster and began ranching.
He was a member of the Sandhills Community Church. He served on the church board and also was a member of the Farm Bureau, National Rifle Association (NRA), Caterpillar Club and American Legion Post 323.
Survivors include: his wife, Bette, of Brewster; three daughters, Laura Gray of Harrison, Sunny Landi of Eureka, Mont. and Amber Hanson of Brewster; a brother, Leland Nygren of Mead; two sisters, Mary Norman of Loves Park, Ill. and Joy Runquist of Derby, Kan.; and eight grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
The funeral will be 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at Cornerstone Berean Church in Kearney with the Rev. Tim Pearson officiating. Visitation will be 4-8 p.m. Monday at Horner-Lieske-Horner Mortuary in Kearney. Visitation also will be one hour prior to the service Tuesday at the church. Burial will be 3:30 p.m. Tuesday at Brewster Cemetery with graveside military rites conducted by Brewster American Legion Post 323.
Memorials have been established to Sandhills Community Church and Brewster Rescue Squad.
