He graduated in 1939 from Bethel High School. Lester served in the U.S. Air Force during World War II as an airplane mechanic in the African and Italian Campaigns. Prior to his retirement in 1985, he was employed as a Parts Maker for RCA for 32 years.
He was a member of the Lititz Church of the Brethren, the Rose of Sharon Sunday School Class, and the VFW of Ephrata. He loved the outdoors, particularly flower gardening.
Surviving, in addition to his wife, is a son, Dennis Balsbaugh; one granddaughter; two great grandchildren; brother, Carl, husband of Faye Balsbaugh, Myerstown; and a sister, Mabel Gerberich of the Lebanon Valley Brethren Home, Palmyra. He was preceded in death by two sisters, Laura Bashore and Grace Royer.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, June 7, 2008 at 11:00 A.M. at Lititz Church of the Brethren, 300 W. Orange St., Lititz, with a viewing one hour prior to the service. Burial will be in Kissel Hill Lutheran Cemetery. Contributions may be made in his memory to the Lititz Church of the Brethren Building Fund.
