Army Spc. Mixon was assigned to the 1st Squadron, 2nd Stryker Cavalry Regiment, Vilseck, Germany. He died of wounds sustained when his vehicle encountered an improvised explosive device. Justin was a typical kid growing up – energetic and rambunctious. His family moved to Bogalusa, Louisiana when he was a teenager and while living there, he attended Louisiana Technical College and worked as a welder and other odd jobs. In May 2005, Justin decided to join the Army and trained as an infantryman. For almost 10 months, he climbed into the forward compartment in a Stryker armored personnel carrier each day and drove his fellow soldiers through Baghdad's dangerous streets. Each day, he did his job without fear and never complained. Justin always had a smile on his face, a positive outlook and great love for his family and fellow soldiers.
