After an illness of only a few days Mrs. William Stoner passed away at her home in Earlville on Friday, June 30, in the 82nd year of her age. Mrs. Stoner suffered a stroke of apoplexy Tuesday of last week and a few hours latter sank into unconsciousness and remained in that condition until her death on Friday morning.
Melissa Louis Parker was born in Geneseo, N. Y., Nov. 4, 1834. On Nov. 8, 1857, she was united in marriage to William Stoner whose decease occurred about three years ago. Mr. and Mrs. Stoner resided on their farm at Plum Creek for several years and then removed to their farm near Greeley, Iowa, where they resided until about nine years ago when they moved to Earlville. Mrs. Stoner was a woman of rugged constitution, great energy and independent mind. She was a great reader and until the day of her fatal illness kept abreast of the news of the day. She is survived by two sisters, Mrs. Young of Brandon, Iowa, and Mrs. Lyzer of Vinton, Iowa one brother, F. E. Parker of Los Angeles, Calif., and an adopted son Wesley Brown of Greeley, Iowa.
The funeral services were held at the residence on Sunday afternoon and were conducted by the Rev. A. M. McIntosh of the Methodist church assisted by Rev. H. W. Artman of Fairbanks, Iowa. Interment was in Fairview cemetery. --Earlville Phonix
