Services for Delmer Earston Anglin will be conducted at Centuries Memorial Funeral Home Chapel, 8801 Mansfield Road, Shreveport at 3 p.m. Saturday, November 17, 2001. Visitation will be from 11 a.m. to service time Saturday. Officiating will be Pastor Larry O'Dell of Christ United Methodist Church, assisted by Pastor Rob Weber of Grace Community Church. Interment will follow in the Centuries Memorial Park.
Mr. Anglin, a native of Plain Dealing, La. was born on September 27, 1924, and entered into rest at Willis-Knighton Medical Center on November 15, 2001 after a long and brave battle against heart disease.
After graduating from Plain Dealing High School he proudly served his country during World War II in the 368th Engineers, U.S. Army. Following the war, he moved to Shreveport where he continued his government career, first with the Veterans Administration then with the U.S. Marshal's Service beginning in 1955, ultimately retiring on November 13, 1981 as the Chief Deputy U.S. Marshal, Western District of Louisiana.
He was also a 32nd degree Mason and member of El Karubah Shrine.
Mr. Anglin was preceded in death by his wife of 49 years, Colene Strickland Anglin, his parents Ben and Mattie Anglin, four brothers, Bill, Holly, Gordon, and Sydnie, and two sisters, Sybil Baxley and Cecil Logan.
He is survived by two sons and daughters-in-law, Rex Anglin and wife Barbara, and Bob Anglin and wife Tammie, one daughter and son-in-law, Sandy Philyaw and husband Allan, two granddaughters, Amy Edie and husband Jonathan, and Amanda Santoff, and six grandsons, Bobby Anglin, Jay and Marshall Philyaw, Marlon Clark, Jared and Josh Santoff, and one brother Lawrence Anglin, and a number of nieces and nephews.
Many cherished friends are left behind whom Mr. Anglin loved, especially those who shared his passion for hunting and other outdoor sports.
Pallbearers will be W. J. Lester, Judge Henry Politz, Bud Swayze, Sid Harold, Clayton Allen and John Hearnsberger. Honorary pallbearers are Buddy Bonner, Sonny Whitteberg, Robert Garland, Rusty McKinley and Ralph Monk.
