Elvin James Roberts of Elgin died at his home Sunday at age of 53. The funeral will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at Munselle-Rhoades Funeral Home Chapel in Milton-Freewater with the Rev. William Miller of the Elgin Christian Church officiating. Burial will be in the Wallowa Cemetery at 23:30 p.m. Wednesday.
Roberts was born May 28, 1923 in Wallowa, the son of Arthur and Angie Roberts. He lived in Wallowa until 1938, when he moved to Milton-Freewater and went to work for Key Brothers. In 1963 he moved to Elgin where he has been working for Boise-Cascade. He was married in Pendleton Dec. 28, 1950 to Velma Gaines. She survives at the family home. He was a member of the Elgin Christian Church and American Legion, Freewater Post No. 24.
Besides his widow, Velma, he is survived by his daughter, Patty Phillips, Milton-Freewater; his stepson James H. Aichele, Pendleton; his brothers, Jesse Roberts, Weston; Charles Raymond Roberts, Pendleton, and Davis Roberts, Milton-Freewater; his sisters, Opal Gentry, Gresham, Ore.; Pearl Dillings, Portland, and Mary Lewis, Weston; four grandchildren and a number of nieces and nephews.
