His first marriage was to Astimisia Bunge, April 18, 1866 at Lorain County Ohio. In 1870 George and Artemisia(ALA Artimissa) were listed residing in Brighton Twp., Lorain County Ohio where he was engaged in farming. It is uncertain what happened to Artismisia but George married for a second time to Mary Frances Smith, November 27, 1886, in Stark County, Ohio. On June 24, 1889, George applied for an invalid soldier's pension which was granted and issued as Certificate #500639 in Ohio. He also appeared in the 1890 U.S. Veterans Census as living in Brighton Twp.
The 1900 U.S. Census for Brighton Twp., listed George as head of household, 59 years old, married 12 years, a laborer. Also listed were Mary F., wife, 42, born May 1858, married for 12 years with 3 of 3 children living. Children were: Grace B., 10, born January 1890, Edith C., 8 born August 1891, and Ruth M., 6, born July 1893, all in Ohio. In the 1910 U.S. Census for Brighton, George was listed as 68, married twice, for a total of 26 years; Mary F, was 52, married once for 21 years, with Grace B., Edith C., and Ruth M., each 10 years older.
AFter George's death at 70 years of age from myocarditis at Brighton Twp., Mary applied for a widow's pension based on George's army service, January 2, 1912. It was granted as Certificate #739199 in Ohio. Mary remained a pensioner until her death in 1927, living in Brighton Twp. in the household of her son-in-law, Clement Greene, who married her daughter, Ruth, who had two daughters.
George's name is inscribed on the base of the Civil War soldiers' memorial/monument at Brighton Township Cemetery.
