He was a graduate of Bessemer High School and he served in the U.S. Army from 1942-1945. Elmo was married to Ruth Nicholson Cox for 56 years. He was a member of Glenwood Friends Church. He retired from Traders Chevrolet as a mechanic. He was predeceased by his parents and two sons, David Cox and Gary Cox.
