From the October 30, 1907 issue of the LaFayette Sun:
Mr. J. W. Moore died at his home one mile east of town Monday afternoon at five o'clock. Mr. Moore had been confined to his room for a month or two, and had recently undergone an operation, but it is thought his death resulted from some disease of the liver. The interment was at Ebenezer Church cemetery (Bosworth) yesterday morning.

From Miss Allie Abernathy's Scrapbooks 1893 - 1923:
A Good Man Gone
Died, at his home in LaFayette, Ala., on Oct. 28th 1907, Mr. John W. Moore, aged 77 years. He was one of the most prominent citizens of his community, and his death is deeply deplored by a large circle of friends. He leaves five children to mourn his death: Mr. J. C. Moore and Miss Lula Moore of LaFayette; Mr. G. W. Moore, of Buffalo; Mrs. W. T. Williams of Milltown; Mrs. C. O. Lour of Penton, and also several brothers and sisters at Newberry, S.C. He was converted and joined the Methodist Church when quite a young man, and he always did all he could on the Master's cause. He suffered intense pain before death relieved him, but he has gone to join his good wife who had gone before standing at the pearly gates awaiting to join him in that beautiful home around God's throne where there is no sorrow and no suffering and no more parting, but everlasting life with God and His angels. "There is an end to all toiling some sweet day. There is a harbor somewhere in a peaceful bay where the sails will be furled and the ship will stay at anchor somewhere in the far away." C.O.L.
