Funeral services for Ezekiel Pennington, 88, of Central, Arizona were conducted on Nov. 1, 2003 at Bunker's Caldwell Chapel. Kay Hancock Hawkins offered the invocation. C. B. Fletcher gave the life story and remarks. Delbert Whitmer offered the benediction.

Concluding services followed in the Central Cemetery with Keith Pennington, Scottie Pennington, Brad Pennington, Shane Pennington, Artuy James Skinner and Art Ginn serving as casket bearers.

Ezekiel was born Dec. 1, 1914, in Heavener, Oklahoma, the son of Jack and Lizzle Pennington. Zeke, as his family and friends affectionately knew him, resided in the Gila Valley for 64 years. He will be remembered as a gentleman farmer, hunter, fisherman and friend to many.

Arrangements were entrusted to Bunker's Caldwell Chapel.

Ezekiel (Zeke) Pennington, owner and operator of Zeke's Picnic and Supply Store, made this store a spot in Central for people to gather and get camping and picnic supplies. He operated the store for six years. Zeke was born 1 December 1914 in Wister, Oklahoma, son of Jack Pennington and Elizabeth Powers. He attended grade school at Lone Pine, Oklahoma and high school at Heavenor, Oklahoma.

He worked as a farm laborer. His hobbies are hunting, fishing, trapping, and gardening. He and Ted Ferguson were partners for years and had hunting dogs. They hunted lions, treed them and collected a bounty on them.

Mary Alice Coffey was born 26 February 1919 in Earlsboro, Oklahoma, daughter of Eaphrom Van Coffey and Mamie Sneed. She attended grade school at Lone Pine, Oklahoma and high school at Wister, Oklahoma. Mary is a homemaker and loves cooking , canning and sewing.

Zeke and Mary were married in 1936. They moved from Spiro, Oklahoma to Central in December of 1940 and first lived in the Smith farmhouse at the east end of Central Road. Zeke worked for James Whitmer on his farm for thirty years. They bought the old Ted Adams home on east Norton Lane and lived there.

They have twin sons: Herman E. and Harmon G., born 22 September 1937. Both boys attended grade school in Central and high school in Thatcher. Herman married Joanna Hancock 11 January 1958. He spent two years S.P.4 United States Army in Lawton, Oklahoma. They have two children: Mark Shaun and Kevin Brad. Harmon G. married Maryleen Nelson and have two children, Debara Kay and Sherry Lynn.
