Guy E. Butterfield
Tuesday morning, death visited our village and took another of the pioneers of this territory in the passing of Guy Butterfield. His death was not unexpected as he had been hovering on the brink of eternity for several days. His passing released the soul from a body that has been steadily declining in health for several years and although we are always reluctant to bid our friends and relatives farewell from this life, a passing under these circumstances seem merciful for the one who has little in store but suffering and pain.
The deceased departed this life in Orchard on the 10th day of July 1945 at the age of 70 years, 11 months, 10 days. He was the second son of the late Edwin and Sara Butterfield. He was born on July 22, 1874 in Buchannan County, Iowa. He came with his parents to Nebraska in the spring of 1877 where he spent his entire life in the Venus and Walnut communities with exceptions of two years spent in Winner, South Dakota and the remaining years in Orchard, Nebraska.
He was united in marriage to Rebecca Adams on October 22, 1898. To this union was born nine children three of which departed in infancy and the eldest daughter, Mrs. Andrew Jackson of Middle Branch, Nebraska departed this life two years ago.
He leaves to mourn his death the wife, three sons and two daughters, Harry of Orchard, Elden of Star, Nebraska, Melvin of Winner, South Dakota, Mrs. Everett Bittner; Winner, South Dakota and Mrs. Nela Lundquist of Star, Nebraska and eighteen grandchildren, one brother, Frank E. of Orchard one sister, Mrs. Will Cook, Walnut, Nebraska, and also other relatives and a host of frineds to mourn his departure.
Funeral services were held at the U.B.. Church in Orchard. Thursday Afternoon at 2:00 o'clock Rev. C. F. Wantz officiating. Interment will be in the Enterprise cemetery.
