Blas Brozozowski Passed Suddenly Away at Home
Blas Brozozowski, esteemed resident of the county, passed away suddenly Saturday at his home on the W. C. Manson farm across the river.
He was found dead in the yard of his house about 7 p. M. That evening by his son, Anton Brozozowski, when he returned home from work. He had left him at 6 a.m. that morning to join the crew at work on the highway. Mr. Brozozowski had apparently been dead for several hours.
He was last seen alive about 10 o'clock that morning by Mr. Mason who went out to his farm to see him.
A hoe was lying near by as though he had been cutting weeds. It is believed he suffered a stroke. He had been in good health of late, although several years ago his health was very bad.
Mr. Brozozowski and two of his sons, August and Anton Brozozowski, lived together on the Mason farm.
He was in his 66th year. Surviving him are seven children, an only daughter, Mrs. Richard Van Beveran of Gonzales, six sons, Will Adolph, Anton, Bruno, Simon and August Brozozowski, all living either in or near Gonzales, with the exception of Will Broz who resides at Yoakum.
His wife preceded him in death years ago when the children were all small.
Mr. Brozozowski was a native of Poland, born there September 23, 1865. He came to this country when a youth of but seventeen years of age and had lived here ever since.
In November 1891 he was married to Miss Betty Garvel who died years ago leaving him with seven small children to whom he was both father and mother, having never remarried.
For years he lived in the Cost Monthalia section, where he was held in the highest esteem. He had many friends being of an exceptionally friendly disposition and was always ready to do his fellowman a favor. He was a devoted husband and father and devoted member of St. James Catholic Church.
The funeral held from St. James Church Sunday afternoon was one of the largest ever held there, many friends and relatives from over the country gathering for the impressive services conducted by his pastor, Rev. John Toujas, who paid his memory beautiful tribute during the service, both at the church and in the brief talk made at the cemetery.
During the service at the church the choir sang "O Paradise" and "Nearer My God to Thee."
It was a long procession that followed the remains to the Catholic cemetery at Monthalia where they were committed to a final resting place beside those of his wife. A brief service was held there by Rev. Toujas and the choir rendered the hymns "Angelic Songs are Ringing" and "Sweet Name which Makes the Dying Live."
Many beautiful floral tributes mantel his grave expressions of esteem and sympathy from numerous friends.
Special offerings included beautiful casket spray from his children bearing the word "Father" lovely wreaths from the Catholic Daughters of America to which his daughter yellow nasturtium, Queen Anne's lace and ferns from the Alter Society of St. James, and an offering of pink lilies, ferns from the choir of St. James of which his son, Bruno Brozozowski is a member.
