Former Okolonian Dies in Meridian
Friends and relative here were grieved Sunday night when they learned that Mrs. Effie Rae Hartley had died of a heart attack at her home in meridian late Sunday afternoon.
Mar. Hartley, a native of Okolona, was a daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Mart Lloyd. She was active in church work. Following the death of her first husband, Joe Herndon, she made her home in Tupelo with her daughter, Mrs. Walter Harwell, until her marriage to Mr. Thomas A Hartley, when she moved to Meridian.
She was a member of the Central Methodist Church, Meridian, was treasurer of the Church Round Table Club and teacher of the Wesley Fellowship Sunday School class. She taught her class Sunday morning and attended to her other duties during the day.
In addition to her husband and daughter, she is survived by two grandchildren, of Tupelo, a step daughter, Miss Lora Hartley, Meridian, two stepsons, Clyde L Hartley, Beaumont, and T H Hartley, Tuscaloosa, and brother J M Lloyd, of Manila, Ark.
Funeral services were held at the Williams Funeral Home in Meridian Tuesday morning. The rites were conducted by Mrs. Hartley's pastor, Dr. W A Tyson, assisted by Dr. Norman W Cox, pastor of the First Baptist Church, Meridian. Burial was in the I O O F Cemetery here where brief services were held.
A large number of out of town relatives and friends were here for the rites.
