He was born May 23, 1921, in Dallas, Texas, to Edward C. and Deyo LaFevre Hayden Summerfield. He married Marian Halquist Aug. 28, 1948. She died June 25, 2003.
He was a head pastor or associate pastor in the Assemblies of God for 48 years, retiring in 1998. He pastored in Indiana at Garrett, 1950-54; Steuben County, 1954-56; Huntington, 1956-58; Clinton, 1959-64; Clay City, 1964-68; Crawfordsville, 1968-72; New Castle, 1972-79; West Terre Haute, 1979-88; and Lafayette, from 1988 until his retirement.
A Navy veteran of World War II, he attended Southern Methodist University from 1939-44, Annapolis in 1944, and Central Bible Institute from 1946-50.
Surviving are his son-in-law Pat Manfredi of Murphysboro, grandson Anthony Manfredi of New York City, and cousin Jim Hall of Sante Fe, NM. He was preceded in death by daughter Donna Summerfield and brothers Hayden and Jack.
