Flora M. Bates
Flora M. Bates, widow of Rufus Bates, died at her home, 107 Giles St., this morning after a long illness. Mrs. Bates, one of the oldest residents of this city, was charter member of the Union Benevolent Society, and had always been active in the social and civic life of Ithaca. She was a member of the First Unitarian Church and of the Unitarian Women's Alliance. Mrs. Bates was a graduate of one of the earliest classes of Elmira College and a member of the Elmira College Club of Tompkins County.
She is survived by her daughter, Miss Annie M. Bates of this city.
Private funeral services will be held at her home on Monday at 3 p.m.

Private funeral services for Mrs. Flora M. Bates, widow of Rufus Bates, were to be held at 3 p.m. today at her home, 107 Giles St., where she died Saturday after a long illness. She was more than 100 years old.
The Rev. Abbot Paterson Jr. of First Unitarian Church was to officiate. Burial was to be in City Cemetery.
The former Miss Flora Doolittle, Mrs. Bates was married in 1863, two years after her graduation from Elmira College. Her husband was elected president of the village of Ithaca in 1870.
She was a charter member of the Union Benevolent Society and was active in civic affairs. A member of the First Unitarian Church, she was also affiliated with the Unitarian Women’s Alliance. She was a member of the Elmira College Club of Tompkins County.
Her only survivor is a daughter, Annie M. Bates, of this city.
