Willard ‘Dub' was born on June 8, 1929 in Maud, Seminole County, Oklahoma. His father, Willard Arthur Sr, and mother, Bessie Rose, had a total of six children.

Dub married Mae Nell Curtis on October 3, 1955 in Dimmitt, Castro County, Texas.

Dub and Mae had two children

Dub enlisted in the US Army when he was 18 years old, in March 1948. While serving in South Korea he was "seriously wounded in action by missile" on April 12, 1951 and returned to duty on April 26, 1951. On July 30, 1973 he retired from the US Army as Field Artillery Master Sergeant. (served in Korea and Vietnam era Wars)

After Military retirement he was a peace officer for Texas Tech University in Lubbock and also the Veteran Administration Medical Center in Big Spring, Texas.
